    STORIA DELLA CANZONE:
    Joe South scrisse “Walk a mile in my shoes” nel 1969 e la registrò alla fine dello stesso anno. Essa arrivò fino al 12° gradino nella Hot 100 di Billboard ed al 3° nella Easy Listening agli inizi del 1970.








    CURIOSITÀ:
    la RCA ha “allacciato” alla versione del 19 febbraio di questo brano, un breve poema che Elvis ha recitato prima di un’altra versione di “Walk a mile in my shoes”, l’11 agosto 1970. Il poema si intitola “Men with broken hearts” ed è disponibile nella videocassetta “The lost performances”. Il numero di master assegnatogli è WPA5-2576 e le parole che Elvis recita sono le seguenti:
    «There was a guy that said one time... He said... You never stood in that man’s shoes, or saw things through his eyes. Or stood and watched with helpless hands, while the heart inside you dies. So help your brother along the way, no matter where he starts. For the same God that made you made him too.These men with broken hearts».
    Ecco la traduzione:
    «Una volta un ragazzo disse: tu non sei mai stato nei suoi panni e non hai mai visto le cose attraverso i suoi occhi e non ti sei mai trovato a dover guardare senza poter far nulla mentre ti sentivi morire dentro. Per cui, aiuta tuo fratello lungo la strada, a prescindere da dove lui venga, perché lo stesso Dio che ha creato te ha creato anche lui… Questi uomini con i cuori spezzati…»
    Queste parole vennero scritte e registrate da Hank Williams e furono pubblicate nel doppio album “Insight Into Hank Williams In Song And Story” e nel CD “Hank Williams–Hey good lookin’. December 1950–July 1951, Volume VI”.
